Connections, Conversation and a Visit to One of Kent’s Hidden Gems
On Wednesday 16th July 2025, around 30 guests joined us at Bredgar & Wormshill Light Railway for another Networking With a Difference event — and this one truly lived up to its name.
The sun was shining, the setting was relaxed, and the atmosphere was lively as we gathered on the grass outside the café to welcome our guests. Muffins were ready on the registration table, and everyone was invited to enjoy complimentary teas and coffees from the café before the morning began. It was a cheerful, informal start to what would become a memorable and engaging event.
Networking and Introductions
The morning began with a relaxed networking session, giving guests the chance to reconnect, make introductions and share updates before the day’s activities. The conversation was lively and friendly, and the atmosphere reflected exactly what Networking With a Difference is all about — professionals coming together in a positive, open setting to build genuine relationships.
Before we moved on to the main experience, we heard short welcome talks from Nick McGowan, our Managing Director, and Christy Fouracre from the Railway. Christy shared the fascinating story behind the site — originally developed by her family and later purchased by Bill Best in the 1970s — and gave us a glimpse into the passion and care that have shaped the railway into what it is today.
Exploring the Railway
Guests then split into two groups to enjoy both a train ride and guided tour. One group joined Christy aboard the train for a picturesque journey through the Kent countryside on the lovingly maintained narrow-gauge railway, while the other explored the workshops and museum with Bill, who shared his extensive knowledge and personal connection to the site.
Afterwards, the groups swapped, ensuring everyone experienced both sides of the morning. The sounds of the railway, friendly chatter and plenty of laughter made it clear everyone was having a great time — a perfect mix of networking and discovery.
Wine, Conversation and Thanks
hroughout the morning, guests enjoyed Gusbourne wines, which were available alongside teas, coffees and muffins — the perfect combination for relaxed conversation and connection. Many thanks to Lauren from Gusbourne for being with us on the day and for her help with pouring and sharing her knowledge.
As the event came to a close, there was a real sense of appreciation for the setting, the company, and the opportunity to network in such a unique and engaging environment.
We’d like to extend our sincere thanks to Bredgar & Wormshill Light Railway for their warm hospitality, to Christy Fouracre and Bill Best for leading such informative tours, and to Gusbourne for their continued support of our events.
And of course, a big thank you to all our guests for joining us and making it another successful Networking With a Difference event.
